Beauty and the Beast

Another one bites the dust…this refers to my iMac, Funshine. Funshine is officially broken, her future is removing the hard drive and putting her back in the pretty box. Anticipating the graphics card fail – Sam spec’d out a brand new computer for me in April. Her name, Wolf, she runs Arch Linux with KDE. Sam got a new Lenovo laptop for Christmas, so ownership of the t40p Lenovo laptop has returned to me.

OS4 (beauty) for the iPhone was released on Monday…Windows XP (the beast) was installed on the t40p, now Funshine. Oh how I have NOT missed Windows! All the updates and drivers are in place, iTunes downloaded, and OS4 installed =)

I finally started my 2nd armwarmer – this one is going much faster.

weather.com said 100 degrees today…

Yay

WordPress 3.0 is installed.  In celebration I changed themes =)

I added an Oahu 2010 page – photo gallery coming soon.

It’s been 90 degrees in DC – very very hot. People could melt!

I started making bead bracelets again – memory wire rocks!

Ordered 18 skeins of Noro Kuryeon – hope to make a huge blanket.  Finished the two color scarf – I don’t like the yarn. Just say no to acrylic yarn.

Hello.

Have no fear, I am here.  I apologize for my absence.  A lot of crazy/busy stuff has been happening.  Plus, I’ve been putting off updating the site because WordPress 2.9.2 is available and I’ve been meaning to upgrade my server (still have not). I shall recap for the strangers that read my blog =)

March: I participated in Spring Break, yes Spring Break.  My God sister Maia and her friend Stephanie traveled to DC for a week.  First time to the National Arboretum and going to the American History museum since it’s remodeling.  I got a new computer – named wolf – running Arch Linux w/KDE.  Sam and I built it.

April: Cherry Blossoms! My favorite time of DC – minus the allergies.  I witnessed a falcon eating a duck.

May: I flew home home for a week.  Quality Family & friend time!

I’ve knitted two market bags w/flowers – one for me, one for Susann.  I plan on attending the Sunday West End Market as often as possible – so far I have only gone once.

Voted for Lee and glad he won American Idol, tho I stopped watching after Didi got booted.  Grey’s season finale…SERIOUSLY!??!?!…FNL has returned on NBC!   I love it.  Lie to Me on Fox is returning this month! Yay!

Present: I participated in my first community yard sale on Saturday.  I made $92.75!  Awesome!  Definitely worth the time and effort.  I got burned on my shoulders and neck.  We were outside from 7am – 11:30am.

Survived!

Aaauuuggghhhhhhhh!!!!!

I just survived my first skein knot ball nightmare.  I unraveled a skein of yarn, thinking I could wrap it into a ball with two arms.  Everyone told me to use a chair, but did I listen? No.

Last night, it was looking like this:

After two hours – I finally went to bed.

Today, victory was mine!  I got it all untangled into a ball.  I raised the ball of yarn up in the air for a victorious moment.

The post office man delivered my yarn ball winder today – if only I had waited a day.  So I used my ball winder for the first time, turning my ball into a nice, organized pull from center ball.  After a total of 3+ hours of a nightmare tangled mess, here it is:

My new large tote from Target – I love the dots.  The top skeins on the right arrived today – Noro Daria multi – from Vintageknits

Knitting Knitting Knitting

This sums up what I have been up to in 2010 =)  I joined ravelry.com (facebook for knitters) and joined a local knitting group that meets at Wegmans in Fairfax.

I decided to spread my wings and rather than purling or knitting the entire project, I learned to read patterns (thx google) and made some arm warmers. ^see photo

I also learned to cable stitch (thx Meredith) last week.  My next two big projects is crocheting a catch all bowl, pattern from the book One Skein Wonders (thx Annie) and knitting in a round to make arm warmers (pattern found on raverly).

The catch all bowl was made with Noro Daria Multi.  This yarn was difficult to find – I fear she may not make it anymore, but luckily a vintage yarn website had some skeins left.

I went on a yarn spree today – shopping at the two local yarn shops in Old Town Alexandria – Knit Happens and Fibre Space

Lastly after discovering twisted skeins had to be wrapped into a ball before use, I found some goodies on knitpicks.com.

For Mom!

It has been 3 months…THREE MONTHS…an entire quarter has passed since my last post.  Interesting moments of my summer: swimming, tanning, swimming, tanning, tanning (I  tried to go to the community pool at least once each weekend)
Summer BBQs, I got a new haircut, I did some knitting, I read some books, I did a lot of shopping (new coach outlet 15 miles away – very dangerous) and of course I went to Transformers 2 on opening day.
Sam and I spent the fourth of July in Quebec, Canada.
I flew home home two weekends ago. ~pic: fruit plate made by my mom for me =) THANKS MOM!
We canceled cable TV for the summer.  Have no fear, I have been indulging in ABC Family’s Make it Break it – it takes me back to my gymnastics days.  I have also caught up on season 2 of Greek =)
I am a huge fan of Caitlin and Will – first season of CMT’s Can You Duet winners – they are amazing – I am anxiously awaiting their debut CD.

New with me

I went to New York City with my BFFL Susann ~Picture is taken of Manhattan from the Empire State building~. We were touring maniacs – Empire State Building, Times Square, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, shopping on Bleeker Street and we almost got on the “Live with Regis and Kelly show” (I don’t wanna talk about it).
Meredith taught me the purl stitch =) at the beginning of May.  I finished my green scarf this past Tuesday. Yay.
I am voting for Kris for the season finale of American Idol.
I am addicted to Twitter.

Knitting

I wanted to show you my first knitting project: a green scarf.  A huge thank you to my dear friend Meredith for taking me supply shopping and teaching me how to knit.
I had a little issue with 22 loops turning into 37 loops, but I narrowed it back to 26. As you can see it gets wider 1/3 of the way from the right. I’m getting faster, it makes watching TV more productive – hahahaha.
3.29.09: I added more pics.  The right pic you can really see the 22 to 37 loop mistake on the bottom left – eeekkk.
